Vocabulary on the topic “Education”


There were some expressions in the video that I didn't know:

1) Expression: Hit the books 

Translation: Усердно заниматься учебой, засесть за учебу

Synonyms: Study hard, Bury one's nose in books

Usage in Context: After a long weekend of partying, Sarah decided it was time to hit the books and prepare for her exams.

 

2) Expression: Pull an all-nighter

Translation: Не спать всю ночь напролет, учиться всю ночь

Synonyms: Stay up all night, work through the night. 

Usage in Context: John had no choice but to pull an all-nighter when he realized that his exam was due the next morning.

 

3) Expression: Cut class 

Translation: Пропускать занятия без уважительной причины. 

Synonyms: Skip class

Usage in Context: Despite knowing the importance of attending lectures, Mark couldn't resist the temptation to cut class and go for a walk.

 

4) Expression: Withdraw from the course 

Translation: Отчислиться или официально прекратить обучение на курсе

Synonyms: Drop out of the course, leave the course

Usage in Context: Emily made the difficult decision to withdraw from the course because it was very difficult.
